HOW TO USE

Before: thoroughly wet all 20 graphite pieces with water (any temperature). Place the headband with the pieces in direct contact with your forehead. During: keep moving. The airflow generated by running, walking or cycling activates evaporation. Re-wet the pieces every 30–40 minutes — with a water bottle, a fountain or a spray. Indoors: place a fan blowing air over the pieces to simulate outdoor airflow, and keep them moist just as you would outside. After: remove the pieces and clean them with water and a little washing-up liquid to remove impurities. Store them in their case.

About Omius Headband CrownPRO

Omius Headband CrownPRO (Omius Technology)

Omius Headband CrownPRO is a personal cooling headband based on amplified evaporative cooling.
It integrates 20 cooling pieces made of high thermal-conductivity graphite, each formed by
9 porous-structure micro-towers and treated with a hydrophilic coating that optimizes water
absorption and evaporation. Together, the pieces multiply by 5 the evaporation surface
of the forehead area they cover.

Cooling Mechanism

Water is absorbed into the porous graphite, where it has 5 times more evaporation surface.
When water changes from liquid to gas, evaporation absorbs heat (latent heat of vaporization)
and removes it from inside the pieces, which are in direct contact with the skin. This produces
a local decrease in forehead skin temperature.

Because the system is driven solely by water evaporation, the effect is sustained —not cold storage—
as long as three conditions are met simultaneously: wet pieces, direct contact with the skin,
and airflow over the pieces (generated by movement or, indoors, by a fan).

Scientific Evidence

Local head cooling acts on cutaneous thermoreception and, through it, on perceived exertion.
Available evidence —including an independent study from Université de Sherbrooke published in
Journal of Thermal Biology (2024)— shows that the technology reduces forehead temperature
and improves perceived thermal comfort and perceived exertion in hot and humid conditions.

The same study found no reduction in core body temperature (rectal or mean skin) and no performance
improvement in a 5 km time trial. In line with Crown’s standards, Omius Headband CrownPRO is described
as a thermal comfort and perceived exertion management tool, not as a device that alters core
temperature or guarantees performance gains.

HOW IT WORKS — 3 Conditions for Cooling

  • Wet pieces: soak the graphite pieces with water before and during use. Any water temperature works.
  • Direct skin contact: cooling occurs through direct contact between graphite and your forehead, not air convection.
  • Airflow: movement (running, walking, cycling) generates airflow that drives evaporation. Indoors, a fan is sufficient.

As long as these three conditions are met, cooling does not run out. Re-wet the pieces every
30–40 minutes to keep the effect at its maximum.

KEY BENEFITS

Cooling that doesn’t expire after 10 minutes

Unlike gel or ice bands that lose their cooling effect in minutes, evaporative cooling
is maintained continuously as long as the pieces are wet and you are moving.
Re-wet them and it continues.

Heat stops setting your pace

By reducing heat sensation on the head and perceived exertion, you feel more comfortable
in conditions where you would normally slow down. Less attention spent on heat, more on your race.

No cold logistics

No fridge, no freezer, no inserts melting mid-race. You only need water.
Cooling is recharged with a bottle or a spray.

Designed for heat and humidity

Works in humid environments as well: air always accepts some additional evaporation.
Useful from 15 °C for heat-sensitive athletes, up to extreme summer race conditions.

USER PROFILE

Designed for endurance athletes training and competing in the heat: marathon and trail runners,
triathletes, cyclists, and long-distance athletes who are particularly affected by high temperatures.
Especially useful in summer races, hot or humid climates, long sun-exposed sessions, double workouts,
and indoor training (treadmill, trainer) with a fan.

WHY IT BELONGS IN CROWNPRO

A protocol tool, not a standalone gadget

Heat management is part of performance, just like hydration or energy.
Omius Headband CrownPRO integrates into your Crown protocol for training and racing in heat,
alongside hydration and electrolyte strategy.

The technology used by the best

The same cooling technology seen on Olympic marathon champions and Ironman World Championship
winners in recent years, integrated by Crown into CrownPRO for your protocol.

Crown honesty about what it does

We don’t promise records. We promise what the evidence supports:
a cooler forehead, improved thermal comfort, and a more manageable perceived effort when the heat hits.
That’s how we do things.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

  • Before: thoroughly wet all 20 graphite pieces with water (any temperature). Place the headband with the pieces in direct contact with the forehead.
  • During: move. Airflow generated by running, walking, or cycling activates evaporation. Re-wet every 30–40 minutes using a bottle, fountain, or spray.
  • Indoors: use a fan to move air over the pieces and keep them wet as you would outdoors.
  • After: remove the pieces and clean them with water and a small amount of dish soap. Store them in the carrying case.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE

  • Graphite pieces are delicate by design: handle with care and avoid impacts with hard surfaces.
  • Do not cover with your own cap during use: this can cause breakage and blocks airflow needed for evaporation.
  • Pieces can be stored dry and re-wetted before each use.
  • For travel, remove the pieces and transport them in the protective case.
  • If a piece breaks, remove it by hand and replace it with a spare — no tools required.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

How exactly does it work?

Through amplified evaporation. The porous graphite absorbs water and multiplies the evaporation surface on your forehead by ×5.
As the water evaporates, it draws heat from the pieces in contact with your skin and cools the area.
The effect continues while the pieces remain wet, in contact with the skin and exposed to circulating air.

Do I need to put it in the refrigerator or freezer?

No. It only needs the pieces to remain wet during use, in contact with the skin and exposed to air.
The water temperature does not matter: it quickly adapts to the environment and evaporation works the same way.

How long does the cooling last during use?

Indefinitely, provided the pieces remain wet, in contact with the skin and exposed to airflow.
In practice, simply wet them again every 30–40 minutes.

Why do I stop feeling the cold after 5 minutes?

Because the thermal receptors in your skin adapt and begin to perceive that temperature as their “new normal”.
The cooling effect is still present: move the headband slightly so the graphite touches skin that has not adapted,
and you will feel it again.

Does it work only when it is very hot?

No. If you feel hot, cooling helps you feel more comfortable and makes the effort feel less demanding.
Some people use it from 15 °C, while others do not need it until 25 °C.

Is my own sweat enough?

Most likely not—it depends on your sweat rate and the environment.
Sweat reinforces the effect, but for optimal performance it is best to keep the headband wet with water.

Does it work in humid conditions?

Yes. Air can always accept some more moisture, and with the amount of water that evaporates,
a humid environment still allows that evaporation.

Can I use it indoors?

Yes. The technology works just as well indoors, but you need a fan to move air over the pieces
to simulate the airflow produced outdoors, and you must keep them wet every 30–40 minutes.

Do I need cold water for the pieces?

No. The water temperature does not matter: it quickly adapts to the ambient conditions,
and evaporation works from any starting temperature.

What are the pieces made of?

Highly heat-conductive graphite with a hydrophilic coating that optimizes the absorption
and evaporation of the water that drives the cooling.

Do the pieces wear out over time?

No. The technology works indefinitely as long as you clean it regularly
and handle it with care.

Are they fragile? What happens if I break one?

Yes, they are delicate by design, and it is normal for one to break with use.
They are replaced by hand: push the old piece out of the grid
and insert a replacement. Replacements are sold in packs.

Can I wear the headband under my own cap?

It is not recommended: contact with the cap can break the pieces
and block the airflow they need to work effectively.

Does it improve my performance or personal best?

It helps you feel more comfortable and makes the heat feel less demanding on your head
(thermal comfort and perceived exertion).
Independent research has not shown that it lowers core body temperature
or improves time-trial performance by itself.
It is a thermal comfort and sensation tool.

How do I clean and store it?

After use, remove the pieces and clean them with water and a little dish soap to remove impurities.
They can be stored dry in their case and wetted again before the next use.

What does the purchase include?

The Omius headband and a pack of 20 cooling pieces to fill the entire grid,
plus the carrying case.
