This Wednesday the Almudena festival is celebrated, and running enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of this day to go for a run around Madrid. Somos Malasaña has published a post with the six best routes you can find in the capital. In addition to a map showing the course of the run, the post indicates the advantages and disadvantages of each route.
Below, we summarize for you the content of the entry of Somos Malasaña:
The Retreat
Retiro Park, a historic garden in Madrid, is one of the most popular routes among runners. Its 4-kilometer route allows you to enjoy a run among tourists and a beautiful landscape.
The main disadvantage of this route is, without a doubt, the uneven terrain it has. El Retiro has numerous ups and downs that make exercising difficult. Above all, the Ángel Caído hill, the post mentions.
Canal Park
For those who are starting out in the world of running, taking a lap around the facilities of the Canal de Isabel II is one of the best options. The full lap is 1,5 kilometers, a short distance so that beginners can finish it without problems.
If what we want is to increase our endurance in running, it is possible that this route might fall a bit short. You will need to change your route and not get stuck at one and a half kilometers if you want to extend your runs.
Temple of Debod
The Temple of Debod is a good option for both beginners and intermediate runners. Inside the garden, Somos Malasaña has found two possible routes.
The first, a lap around the 750-meter temple, which makes it ideal for those new to running. And, when they want to move on to something more advanced, they can go to the second option: a run along the Pintor Rosales promenade, a route of 2 kilometers.
And, if the walk still feels too short, you can combine both routes to increase the kilometers of your run. In addition, the absence of slopes makes it an ideal option.
Western Park
Next to the Temple of Debod we find the Parque del Oeste, we can even link both routes, since they are connected by the Pintor Rosales promenade.
The Western Park has a route of 4,3 kilometers per lap and a green space full of trees and shade throughout the year. Its main disadvantage is the constant ups and downs that the route presents. Other than that, it is an entertaining route for intermediate runners that allows for easy training.
Dehesa de la Villa
If what you like is running on gravel, this is your option. La Dehesa de la Villa has 5 kilometers of trail, of which more than half is gravel. Additionally, it is ideal for running in summer, as it has abundant trees that will provide you with shade.
It is also one of the routes farthest from the center and has some slopes along its path, although the natural environment that the walk offers is worth it.
Country House
For advanced users, Casa de Campo is an interesting option, since the route suggested by Somos Malasaña has a course of 12 kilometers.
However, the options that Casa de Campo offers to create your own route are endless. This makes it a good option for any athlete. In addition, it is a true natural environment where you can even find wild animals.
If you go for this option, you will have to be careful not to get disoriented, it's a field!
