We leave you an interview that we have conducted with Uxío Abuín.
How do you face the year 2018?
With much eagerness and excitement after having finished 2017 with great results.
What are your goals and objectives for this season?
My main goal is to continue rising in the world ranking and be able to complete the World Series circuit, thus adding points for the Olympic ranking since being in Tokyo 2020 is my goal and my dream.
What is the training like for an athlete of your level in triathlon?
Many hours of daily training that vary depending on the time of year. Normally, during the load phase we put in about 5-7 hours daily, combining the three disciplines and gym, and during competition periods we considerably reduce the time and load to about 3-4 hours of daily work to be able to recover and arrive with strength for each event.
What importance does nutrition have on performance both in competitions and in training?
A lot! I would say that especially in times of heavy training is when one has to eat a lot and well since the body is exposed to enormous effort. Before a competition I like to load up well 2-3 days before and on the day of the race decrease a little so as not to feel heavy.
What type of sports supplements do you use? How important are they for performance at the highest level?
Sports supplements improve performance by helping us better assimilate the training. I use Crown products: isotonic drink for long or hot workouts and also always a bottle in competition; also energy bars in tough workouts; the recovery 3:1 Pro after demanding workouts; gels in competition; and BCAA’s 2:1:1 at night so that the body can assimilate the day's work and be recovered for the next one.
What does a sports supplement have to provide you for you to consider it of quality?
Trust and scientific studies that certify it, as well as the taste and texture when I take them are to my liking, then trying them and verifying that they suit you well.
Do you think that at the highest level good supplementation can be a determining factor when it comes to achieving a result?
Of course, when you ask so much from the body, it also asks you for quality input and then thanks you with the results.
