Evolution of Miguel Induráin's physiological profile
Miguel Induráin broke the hour record in the Bordeaux velodrome in 1994. He set the record at 53,040 km, with an average (estimated) power of 509.5 W.
In the previous months, Sabino Padilla and Íñigo Mújika did a physiological and aerodynamic study in order to optimize his performance and be able to beat the record.
16 years later, he was again subjected to a maximum effort test in order to find out how his physiological profile had evolved.
At 46, after 14 years in retirement, Induráin exhibited absolute values comparable to young riders in the current peloton.
