Hydration is essential in long-distance races. Many runners fail to finish these events because of exhaustion, cramps or dizziness—symptoms that can sometimes result from inadequate hydration.
Fluid loss increases during a marathon because of breathing and sweating, making fluid and energy intake key to optimal performance. We have therefore launched new products to help athletes in these situations.
A marathon causes water loss through breathing and sweating, so proper hydration is essential, particularly over long distances.
Correct hydration is fundamental to optimizing any athlete's performance. Water and sports drinks are important because the body must replace the water and electrolytes it loses.
Sweat primarily causes sodium loss, which is why replacing it with an isotonic drink matters. We therefore created Isotonic Drink, a premium powdered isotonic drink containing key nutrients to help prevent dehydration and glycogen depletion during prolonged, high-intensity efforts.
To help prevent dehydration, sports-nutrition specialist Pablo Felipe Martín explains that “only the most important electrolytes—sodium, potassium and chloride—have been added in optimal proportions.” Its carbohydrates and amino acids also provide rapid, sustained energy, creating a balanced formula with outstanding flavor and performance.
Another suitable product for marathon runners is Energy Gel, a nutrient-dense energy gel that, like the isotonic drink, provides meaningful amounts of important electrolytes to support hydration during prolonged, intense efforts. Its fluid texture makes it easy and pleasant to consume, while its carbohydrates and amino acids provide immediate energy and help maintain blood glucose.
A marathon also demands greater endurance and high energy expenditure, making protein, together with carbohydrates, a useful energy source.
For marathon runners, Martín recommends “consuming energy bars such as the 5:1 Energy Bar approximately every 90 minutes of exercise.” It is an
oat bar designed for sports with high energy demands, with added isolated and hydrolyzed Optipep 90 milk protein. Its moist texture makes it easier to chew and digest during intense exercise. Each bar contains 42% oats, plus quality protein to improve its nutritional profile, providing 30 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of protein and 8 grams of fat per 60-gram bar.
