Collagen RAW is an innovative formula based on the highest quality hydrolyzed bovine collagen type I, Peptan® brand, which also combines key active ingredients such as vitamin C and the amino acids Glycine and Lysine. Without added flavorings or sweeteners, it can be consumed directly dissolved in water due to its high solubility, although its neutral flavor allows a pleasant intake easily combined with other foods such as juices, milks, yogurts, cereals, coffee, etc.
What is Collagen? Collagen is a structural protein of animal origin and is very important at the biological level as it is widely present in connective tissue, i.e. the tissues that make up tendons, ligaments, joint cartilage, tendon muscle, skin and bone. Its function, among others, is to hold these tissues together, ensuring their integrity, elasticity and regeneration. The degree of importance of collagen is such that it represents almost 30% of all body proteins. This large percentage is actually divided into different types of collagen, the most abundant of which is type I, which is the one that provides the majority of this product.
Collagen, much more than a simple source of protein… Collagen, like any protein, is made up of amino acids and we might think that it is just that, a source of protein and that ultimately only provides amino acids and yes, in a way, it is so, but the importance and / or difference between different types of proteins (Whey, egg, soy, collagen, etc.) is marked by the proportion in the different amino acids and that is where collagen is unique, as it contains a high percentage of 3 key amino acids, glycine, proline and hydroxyproline.) is marked by the proportion of the different amino acids and this is where collagen is unique, as it contains a high percentage of 3 key amino acids, glycine, proline and hydroxyproline (approx. 45% of the aminogram), moreover, hydroxyproline is only found in collagen.
What is Hydrolyzed Collagen or Collagen Peptides? It is not enough just to take any collagen, it is essential that it is hydrolyzed (not native collagen or gelatin), this makes it in the form of peptides (small proteins) to achieve high solubility, absorption and digestibility due to its low molecular weight (Watanabe-Kamiyama, M. et al., JAFC. 2010). These small peptides are obtained only by controlled (non-aggressive) enzymatic hydrolysis, thus changing from an insoluble and therefore inabsorbable and indigestible native protein to a bioactive “protein” with a unique composition.
Health effects of Peptan® collagen peptides There are multiple benefits of collagen peptides for health, such as healthy aging, beauty and skin care, and, of course, joint, bone and musculoskeletal health, which is what we are most interested in at the sports level. High intensity sports can cause fissures and tears in musculoskeletal tissues (tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bones) which can lead to a high risk of injury. The daily intake of these peptides, with specific amino acids such as hydroxyproline, makes them act as “messengers” to promote and facilitate the endogenous production of body collagen fibers helping to strengthen the connective tissue and, probably, to reduce injuries (Jiang, J.X. et al., AFIHT. 2.014). In addition, it has been shown that they could help in cartilage regeneration (chondro-regenerator) and have an anti-inflammatory effect (Dar, Q.A. et al., OC. 2.016). If we talk about beauty, i.e. skin care, it is clear that there are factors that influence to a greater or lesser degree, such as age, lifestyle, pollution, diet and exposure to sunlight, a very important factor to take into account in all those who practice sports or outdoor disciplines. For them, Peptan® collagen can offer an extra benefit because its continuous intake has shown an improvement in both the density and structure of cutaneous collagen, in addition to promoting greater hydration and stimulation of endogenous synthesis of both hyaluronic acid and collagen itself as we have already mentioned (Asserin, J. et al., JCD. 2.015).
But taking collagen alone is not enough, that’s why the innovative Collagen RAW formula contains:
- Bovine Collagen Peptides (Hydrolyzed Collagen): Whose importance we have already mentioned. Added in effective doses of 10 g. per intake. We have chosen the one of bovine origin and of the highest quality, Peptan®, one of the most studied and most important patents worldwide.
- Vitamin C: This water-soluble vitamin is a fundamental cofactor for the endogenous synthesis of collagen, so much so, that there are studies that show that the co-ingestion prior to training of this vitamin together with collagen generates a greater synthesis of collagen itself (Shaw, G. et al., AJCN. 2.017), which could play a beneficial role both for the prevention and repair of tissues. We have added it to ensure that the intake of both ingredients is simultaneous. In addition, vitamin C is necessary for the hydroxylation of proline and lysine in procollagen. As with other vitamins and minerals, important worldwide bodies such as the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) grant this vitamin important benefits such as those published in 2.012 that have to do, among other functions, with all the above mentioned, such as, for example, that vitamin C contributes to the normal formation of collagen for the normal functioning of: blood vessels, bones, cartilage, gums, skin and teeth; it contributes to the protection of cells against oxidative damage (commonly known as antioxidant effect), etc.
- Glycine: This non-essential amino acid is related, when consumed on a regular basis, to the prevention of osteoarthritis and other degenerative diseases, in addition to other conditions related to the weakness of the mechanical structure of the body, including the difficulty in repairing injuries. It seems to have some anti-inflammatory effect on connective tissue (Vieira, C.P. et al., AR. 2.015). It also seems to act as an antioxidant preventing, among others, lipid peroxidation. Although we have already mentioned that this amino acid is one of the most abundant in type I collagen itself, we have added it to enhance the formula and because, at an isolated level, it has a certain sweetening power, thus achieving a better “flavor” of the product.
- Lysine: This essential amino acid is widely present in skin, collagen and muscle tissue. It is one of the most important as it is involved in many bodily functions, including the formation of collagen (skin, tendon, cartilage and bone) and by adding it we enhance the formula ensuring that there is no deficit of it.

How to use: Mix 13.3 g of product (1 scoop or 1 sachet) with 200 ml of water or your favorite beverage (coffee, milks, juices, etc.). Its neutral flavor allows it to be easily added to other foods such as yogurts, cereals, smoothies, porridge, etc.
